The words “mindfulness” and meditation are circulating everywhere these days. You see and hear about it so often that you might even catch yourself rolling your eyes, or thinking “I swear, if someone tells me to meditate one more effing time…”

Then, you go to your therapist appointment (because you’re a health and growth-seeking individual. Who needs meditation? This is science!) and unload what you’ve been struggling with lately. Your therapist’s response?

“You know, you should really try a meditation practice.”

You internalize the outrage because, let’s face it, you’re not ready to show your therapist the full crazy just yet. Instead, you smile and nod your head.

“Yes. I should really try that,” you say through gritted teeth. “What do I pay you for?”

“What’s that?”

“Um, how do I pay you?” You smile again.

You bite the bullet. You decide to finally download a meditation app or buy a one-off guided audio. You sit down, close your eyes, and try this incessant meditation thing.
