Here’s a Fun Challenge for Aspiring Novelists and Screenwriters
If you’ve had “work on my novel” or “finish screenplay” on your to-do list for longer than you’d like to admit, then this article is for you. Getting going on these bigger projects is something so many writers struggle with.
The thing is, large projects are intimidating. It’s pretty easy to type out a short article for Medium, or to produce a blog for someone who is paying you to have it done within 3–5 days, etcetera. It’s just easier to tackle smaller tasks. You could always try to break big tasks up into smaller ones, as I’m sure you’ve read in many articles before. Or, you could do this…
The challenge
My challenge for you is simple: get involved in a writing competition. It’s proven to work for me twice now, and I think it’s a great method for any writer to use in order to finally churn out that masterpiece you’ve always wanted to write.
Twice now I have taken part in writing competitions requiring pieces of great length, and twice I have worked tirelessly to tell the stories that were lying dormant in my head for way too long.
