Pick the flower you find pretty. Convince it that it will grow better with you.

Take that flower away from its roots.

Spend all your time worried the flower will want to go back. Starve it when it threatens your ego or leaves that perimeter of control you use to sleep at night. Instead of loving it, find fault in everything it does.

Tell the flower that the damage you are causing it, instead of the nurturing care you promised, is only the flower’s fault. Tell it that it’s diseased.

Let it desperately try to fix itself each time. Convince yourself you picked a bad flower that simply won’t grow or thrive.

Watch the flower wither away and eventually die.

Blame the flower.
