My last “normal job”

I’ve spent the last ten months not able to work because I didn’t feel safe going back into the office as soon as my boss was. And even before that, I was working remotely for about three months. Therefore, I haven’t worked in a normal work setting for over a year now.

Of course, at first working remotely was amazing. I got to sleep in a little later, avoid that gruesome, hour-and-a-half morning commute through stressful traffic jams, and work from the comfort of my own home. It was like an answer to a prayer for me. But novelties always wear off. Always.

Once I quit that job and focused my efforts on freelance writing projects and writing film scripts, I found myself at home all the time. There was still a pandemic going on, after all. I’d moved over to the U.K. to be with my now-fiancée for awhile last summer, and our area has gone through multiple lockdowns since then.

Everything has been shut down most of the time I’ve been here. I’ve only really known the walls inside our flat minus a few rare occasions. Even the cafés shut down for sit-in customers. I haven’t been able to have a change of scenery to work on my writing…everything had to be done from home.
